After a long drive of 500 km from Cairo, through endless barren desert you won't
believe your eyes of what you see, an endless olive and palm groves, in fact the oasis
boasts more than 300.000 palm trees, and 70.000 olive trees as well as many fruit
orchards, being surrounded by lakes, and/in more than a thousand springs, Siwa Oasis
has been designated as a protectorate for its faunal and cultural diversity. A true
paradise on earth, or in the mid of the western desert, attracts very different kind of
birds including turtle dove, falcons and quails. Once strolling through the rich palm
groves you'll be soon convinced that the main attraction is Siwa is Siwa's serene
ambience. The climate in Siwa is more severe than in cities like Cairo, in general Hot
Summer and Cold Winter, that's why the best time to visit Siwa, is Autumn or Spring
, but autumn is more preferred and advised. Siwan' Culture is totally unique in all of
Egypt, people there as of Berber origin, still speaks their own Berber language besides
Arabic, since antiquity it's famous for its unique temple of the oracle of Amon, a
temple once visited by Alexander the Great where his divinity as son of god Zeus-
Amon was confirmed, other than hosting the temple of oracle Siwa oasis has many
attractions including, the most popular Cleopatra' Bath, the old city of Shali, to the
north of Shali and 50 meters high, an ancient cemetery, the cemetery adds a lot to the
ancient Egyptian art and Greek art. The tombs are located deep in the mountain, The
most famous tombs in this region are the tomb of Si Amun, which has a collection of
prominent inscriptions as well as The crocodile cemetery is named after the
inscription on it. It is a yellow crocodile shape, and the ancient tombs in the so called
Gebel AL Mawta (The Mountain of the Dead) ,The mixing tales of legends and rituals
coincide with holidays and celebrations, creating an Egyptian legend called Siwa
Oasis.The most famous of these legends is the story of the people of the oasis. It is
about a long history linking Jebel Dakrour, the Temple of Revelation and the Mount
of the Dead through an underground tunnel.The Mount of the Dead is one of the most
famous shrines in Siwa. It is not a geographically true mountain, but a high plateau
with a rocky cone in the middle.Mount of the Dead contains thousands of tombs
carved on top of the rocks. The tombs are round in the shape of a beehive. It is one of
the most beautiful and strangest archaeological sites in Egypt. It is one of the wonders
of Siwa.
