Nuweibaa
Nuweiba
Sandwiched between the Sinai Mountains and the Gulf of Aqapa, covering about
40 km 2, located some 465 KM southeast of Cairo and 150 KM north of Sharm IL
Sheikh. Welcome to Nuweibaa, Sinai largest oasis, where fine-sand beaches are
peppered with Bedouin beach tourist camps. Climate is perfect, as Temperatures
range in winter between 18-20 °C , while its summer of 33-36 °C.
Nuweibaa, a settlement developed from a barren isolated place with no infrastructure
into a promising and attractive tourist destination. Maybe low on historic sights, but
Nuweibaa is the only place in Egypt from where you can see the sunrise in the east,
rising over the Hijaz Mountain-range of Saudi Arabia in one of the most spectacular
sights, ever.
Endless stretches of white sand-beaches, where you can take an afternoon nap under a
palm tree, or in a bamboo hut, snorkel and swim in a pure crystal clear waters, and
most of all, great shore dives just a couple of palm strokes away and get the feel you'll
never have in any other Red Sea Coast. Dine in the city's local restaurant, the best
fresh seafood, feast at night with the Bedouins in candle-lit dinner and barbeque
parties
In fact the area offers plenty of mountain landscapes. Nuweibaa is well known for its
Bedouin-style camps, as Nuweibaa, historically inhabited since antiquity by two
different Bedouin Tribes, the Tarabin to the north and the Mozena to the south. The
history of the now developed resort began around 1985 when the former president of
Egypt Hosni Mubarak gave the signal to expand the then modest touristic city soon
after the opening of Nuweibaa Port, from which several Modern-Ferries run every day
to Aqaba in Jordan. In fact Nuweibaa is a destination where you can unwind and
relax away from the usual mass tourism hustle and bustle. A destination from which
you can go into the depths of the Sinai desert: a close destination to visit St. Catherine
Monastery, and experiencing Mount Sinai.
