Dating back to the fifth century and covering an area of about 5 acres, marked by the cave where the holy saint lived there for some 80 years. Of the three churches within the monastery, the most important is the underground one containing the hermit's cave and burial where he lived and died. According to tradition, when St. Paul died two lions were seen by the cave's entrance miraculously giving the protection to the holy corpse.
